Binti is in a futuristic African society and a member of the Himba tribe. She comes from a long line of "astrolabe" creators. Upon acceptance at the prestigious Ommza University she must confront issues of identity as she grapples with tribal predjudices.
This book was very short and succinct, and I'm sure speculative fiction and fantasy fans will really enjoy this gem.
I discussed this book with Uptown Girls Harlem Book Club at Shrine World Music Venue. Everyone really enjoyed this book, even those who don't usually read science fiction - everyone was able to identify with and appreciate something about the book. Event hough this was a short book, we had a lot to discuss - issues of tribal differences, strong female protagonist, themes of terrorism and religion. For some it was just enough, while others were wanting more.
Recommendation: Read it!
Audience: Millenials and Beyond
