The "Twilight" series is the most popular book series in my library amongst the teens, and I have yet to read the book...
...until now.
It's my fault/not my fault! When this book came out, I immediately put this book on my "To Read" list like everyone else in the world...and then my sister read it first, and told me not to bother. Because I trust my sister's taste (...she hasn't steered me wrong about The Wire, or Game of Thrones, or any sale happening in the entire United States...), so I listened to her!
When my superviser pulled the stats on the most popular books in the Teen Corner, I was surprised, that though published in 2006, this book is still a hit, and Breaking Dawn is the number 1 book checked out amongst this demographic. I can't jump out there and read Breaking Dawn I haven't even read the first book! This is sacrilege!
So...I read it, and meh... It's not the best book I've ever read. The relationship between Edward and Bella is kinda corny....I spent the whole time just wishing Edward would eat her already, and we could all get on with our lives. I mean....why would a 100-and-something-year-old vampire want to hang out with this cornball! Because.....HE LIKES HER SMELL!!!!!! EWWWWWWWW!!!!!! Take a bath Bella!!!!! LOLOLOL!!! At 544 pages, this is a LOT of book!!!!! It just kind of went on and on for me.
I am glad to have finally read it. And will probably discuss it with my teens. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to share with me why they love it so much.
Recommendation: If you're the last person on earth, besides me who hasn't read it - knock yourself out! Why not!?
Audience: Young Adults (Grades 9 and up)
