Little Leaders is a such a glorious tribute featuring 40 iconic black women. I knew I would love this highly anticipated debut, and it exceeded my expectations. Harrison's artwork is whimsical and fun, with each portrait containing something personalized about each woman. Though many of the names where familiar, Harrison introduces figures who've made significant achievements, some with little or no fanfare. She links legends of antiquity with living sheroes. Though each of them are adorned in a way that personalizes them their shared expression ties them together somehow - in them the reader can see themself. I read the book aloud to my mom in one sitting, and she and I were truly in awe of the book. She's promised me a quilt based on the book, and I am definitely going to hold her to it.
This is truly a delightful book. I'm about to buy copies for every little girl I know, and then check my library's holdings to make sure they have it.
